Netiquette, and why the digital world needs it.

Flipping through the radio one day on my way to town I came upon this word. Wow I thought! This is what the world really needs. Having lived through the last parts of the letter writing age when people could or would actually spell a word out, I now find myself placed in the middle of an abbreviated internet lingo world. TTTTTGGGGIIIIIFFF what in the world! I thought to myself, is this some sort of code or a spelling gone horrible wrong! As I stared at my phone I almost expected the answer to hit me any second, but it didn’t. After a few message exchanges I learned the meaning.

Is it just me? Am I old fashioned? Do these abbreviations bother others? Writing just doesn’t feel as personal anymore. In our word world of haha’s, ttyl’s, and the boundless amounts lol’s running around maybe what we need is a little bit more of that old fashioned writing. Now I’m not totally against it, even though you may think that by now. I can see the benefits in texting and other instant communications, but do we have to go to such extremes. Do you really need to say lol after every other word or abbreviate entire sentences? Maybe it’s just me, but I think it would do people a lot of good just to sit down and write. That’s why I am talking up blogging and maybe you should give it a thought too!

I would love any comments on the matter so fill free to write back. This is also my first blog post and I’m still quite rusty. Any pointers on writing and blogging would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone
